In 1967 it was decided that New Zealand would assist in the Vietnam War by sending a Rifle Company to Vietnam. However, this group would be attached to an Australian Battalion. Like most other battalions these Australian Battalions already had A, B, C and D companies within their own structure. So, NZ decided to name the new rifle company V Company. Later in the year a second company was formed and became W Company. Then in 1968 while both companies were attached to 2RAR, that battalion, 2 Royal Australian Regiment, became known officially as the ANZAC Battalion and remained as such until they were replaced in Vietnam by 4RAR. 4RAR was the second ANZAC Bn.

The NZ SILVER FERN was laid over the (2RAR) BLACK side.
The Australian WATTLE was laid over the (1RNZIR) GREEN side,
It is important that this is how it is described because the Fern is usually on Black for New Zealand and the Wattle is usually on Green for Australia, but that is not the case in this design.

.
The CROWN in the design exists because both 1RNZIR and 2RAR contained Royal in their title and displayed the CROWN.
This is where we get the CROWN for our design.
The Kiwi is our National Bird and a name synonymous with New Zealand Soldiers.
It stands holding a Taiaha which is a Maori weapon of war. The TAIAHA is a striking weapon and the striking end is the end the KIWI holds to its front.
Below this is the "W" and "COMPANY", otherwise known phonetically as Whiskey, The name of our company.
The RED background signifies the ARMY in New Zealand
.
This logo was designed by a LCpl I (Pagan) Smith. Pagan was an Australian who came to New Zealand to join the NZ Army so that he might get a trip to Vietnam in early 1967. He was an artistic soldier who was very well liked in Whiskey Company.
